1990 Napa Valley

Napa Valley crop levels were down in 1990 due to coulure (mis-flowering) caused by rains during the early part of the growing season. Otherwise, it was a warm, dry, relatively uneventful vintage producing rich, ripe, concentrated berries. It was a year that was not only known for its decadent fruit profiles but also solid structures. Some wines were chewy and unapproachable when young, only to blossom after a decade or so in bottle.
