Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 1904-2017

Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou is a steady hand of a château if there ever was one. The moniker might even be considered a criminal understatement for an estate that has been so quietly authoritative for so long.

What’s exciting is that the trajectory has not plateaued.

When Ducru-Beaucaillou is at the top of its game it is as super as super seconds come. One of the great Bordeaux wines doing exactly what it has always done, only somehow better.

- Bruno Borie

Steady Hand

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou sits tucked away behind Beychevelle some distance away from the main road of D2, colloquially known as ‘route du chateau’.  With its bright and strong orange-coloured label, this is a wine that stands out from the crowd on the table. But not only because of its label.

Contrary to many other châteaux Ducru-Beaucaillou has never had any prolonged periods where it was underperforming.

It always managed to deliver quality and good to great wines, save for a short period in the mid to late nineties where the quality was uneven.

The quality and precision of the wines made today, guided by the steady hand of Bruno Borie, is unparalelled in the history of the château and it now steadily churns out high quality wines in every vintage.

That is also true of the second wine, La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou, which is a very well made wine for earlier consumption.

Should you want to taste some mature examples of Ducru-Beaucaillou, peruse the notes of wines going back to 1904 and you will find plenty of vintages well worth a visit!
